Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
The aim of the MOS tests is to measure not just skills and knowledge but also how effectively the software is used and thus how productive the user is likely to be. Test content comes from real-world scenarios and accurately mirrors on-the-job performance.
The Microsoft Office Specialist program
offers three levels of certification:
Core, Expert, Master. The level you choose depends
on your personal ability and knowledge.
CORE assesses whether a person can handle basic everyday tasks. This is the first level of certification and is aimed at anyone who wants to validate their skills regarding fundamental aspects of the application, the resolution everyday problems and the completion of multi-task activities.
Core certification is available for each of the following Microsoft Office applications:
Word - Excel - PowerPoint - Access - Outlook - Projects
EXPERT is
the next level up and assesses ability to handle more
complex tasks. This is the certification level you need
if you want to establish your credentials as an expert
in the use of the application in question. You can get
expert level certification for each following Microsoft
Office applications: Word
- Excel
MASTER is the highest level of end user certification and will establish that a person can use Microsoft Office to an advanced level.
Once you pass the Word Expert, Excel Expert and Access, PowerPoint and Outlook core level exams you will receive a Microsoft Office Master certificate. This is an indispensable qualification if you want to become a Microsoft Office Specialist Master Instructor.

The MOS Tests
All tests are computer-based and take between 30 and 60 minutes with results displayed as soon as the test is completed.
Unlike multiple-choice tests that ask questions about the software, MOS exams take place within the Microsoft Office applications themselves.
Successful candidates receive a certificate by post one to two weeks later. Unsuccessful candidates receive a print-out outlining areas where they need to focus more attention.
Tests cost in the region of £55
+VAT each.
